Tropical Depression Five-E develops in Eastern Pacific, is forecast to become hurricane
A new tropical depression has formed in the Eastern Pacific and is forecast to intensify significantly.
At 11 a.m. today, Tropical Depression Five-E is located about 290 miles south of Manzanillo, Mexico.
Maximum sustained winds are at 35 mph, and the storm is moving west at about 14 mph. This motion is expected to continue with a gradual turn to west-southwestward by the midweek.
Strengthening is forecast during the next several days, and the system could become a hurricane by the middle part of this week, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
