Kamehameha Schools – Hawai‘i’s football team is on a three-win streak (2-0 in BIIF DII) after defeating defending BIIF DII champion Honoka‘a HS 30-7 on Saturday night.
The Warriors got things started with a 14-0 first-quarter lead. Quarterback Adam Perry rushed three yards for the first TD, then connected a 19-yard pass to Javan Feary for the second.
KSH tacked on another two points when defensive end Niau Paulos made a tackle for a safety after the start of the second quarter.
The Dragons got on the board with less than two minutes left in the half when quarterback Elijah Kaupu-Alip connected with Gavin Silva for a 54-yard touchdown pass.
After entering the half with a 16-7 lead, the Warriors returned to the field and took it to 23-7 when Ethan Bowden ran five yards for another touchdown.
Bowden got his second touchdown — KSH’s final on the outing — on a one-yard dive three minutes into the fourth quarter.
Lucas Kay-Wong made all four PAT kick attempts for KSH.
Perry completed 43% of his pass attempts for 258 yards and a TD. Bowden led the Warriors in rushing yards, totaling 56 yards on 15 carries for an average gain of 3.73 yards.
Feary led in receiving yards with 87 on five receptions, trailed closely by Jacobjames Ramos with 75 yards on five receptions.
The Warriors will be back in action 6 p.m. tomorrow at neighbor Kea‘au HS, where they will take on Pahoa HS (1-1).
The Dragons will play their third straight home outing at 6 p.m. on Friday against Kohala HS (0-2).
More BIIF action
Also at 6 p.m. on Friday, Keaau (2-1 ovr., 2-0 BIIF DI) and Hilo HS (0-1 BIIF DI/ovr.) will face off at Wong Stadium. The Vikings will look to add a win after their 55-8 loss to Konawaena last week, while the Cougars will try for a third straight BIIF DI win.
This game will be the first of four consecutive weekly home games for Hilo.
At 11 a.m. Saturday, Kealakehe HS (0-3 ovr. 0-1 BIIF DI) and Waiakea HS (0-2 BIIF DI/ovr.) will fight over an escape from the bottom standing in BIIF DI.
The Warriors are coming off of two straight blowout shutouts after falling 74-0 to Konawaena and 42-0 to Keaau. The Waveriders have also had a painful start to their season — suffering three straight home beatdowns, two of them shutouts.
Hawaii Prep (1-1 BIIF DII/ovr.) will travel south to Ka‘u HS (1-1 BIIF DII/ovr.) for an away outing, kicking off at noon. Both teams will try to start a win streak after victories last week — when Ka Makani beat Pahoa 33-0 and Ka‘u beat Kohala 44-24.
At 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Konawaena HS (2-1 ovr., 2-0 BIIF DI) will host Leilehua HS for a nonleague matchup.
