Phoebe Poipe Gomes, 85, of Hilo, formerly of Pahala, died July 29 at home. Born in Kalaoa, Kailua-Kona, she was an owner and truck driver for the former Gomes Hauling, former member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Pahala and its choir, member of Malia Puka O Kalani Catholic Church, Hula Halau ‘O Mahealani, Snowbirds and Hawaiian Girls golf clubs, and participated ‘ukulele and karaoke classes at Kamana Senior Center. Visitation 4-6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Celebration of Life at 6 p.m. Visitation again 9-10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at Malia Puka O Kalani Catholic Church in Keaukaha. Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. Inurnment to follow at Homelani Memorial Park, glass-front niches. Casual attire. Survived by daughter, Celeste (Calvin) Fukuhara of Hilo; sons, Robert (Donna Mae) Gomes Jr. and Jeffrey (Wendy) Gomes of Hilo, Robin (Mari) Gomes of Honolulu; brothers, Luther Keanaaina of Waipahu, Oahu, and Norman (Carol Ann) Keanaaina of Kalaoa, Kailua-Kona; sister-in-law, Thomasina Gomes Fogliani of San Carlos, Calif.; 19 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
