Wong homers during Dodgers debut

During the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 6-3 loss to the Atlanta Braves on Friday, Kolten Wong had a pinch-hit, three-run homer with two outs in his Dodgers debut, cutting their deficit to 6-3.

Waiakea HS seeking coaches

The Waiakea High School Athletic Department is still looking for a head softball coach and head boys volleyball coach.

This Head Coach will be responsible for all aspects of their respective program.

Some duties include — teaching/coaching of correct, proper and safe techniques, administrative duties such as staffing and monitoring of grades, attendance and character development, helping to maintain and to help prepare and take care of the field, equipment and uniform maintenance, foster school spirit and social and emotional strength in the student athletes. Also, provide duties asked of by the Principal and Athletic Director.

Minimum requirements — High School education, previous coaching experience (high school level or higher preferred), NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching certified, conducting self in an ethical and professional manner, being of high character, handling administrative responsibilities appropriately and effectively, and able to communicate effectively with all role groups and work well with people.

Applicants must be willing to be held accountable for what is expected of the job and give 100% effort. All applications will be considered. Applications can be picked up at Waiakea High School Main Office from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Opening date is Sept. 5, with closing date is Sept. 22.
