According to the woman’s report, she was walking back to her vehicle across the main parking lot just after sunset when she heard what sounded like a gunshot in the immediate area. Although the woman did not react right away, she shortly realized she had suffered a large bleeding laceration in her left bicep.
The woman left the scene immediately and called police, who eventually located her in Waimea. Upon an investigation of her vehicle, officers discovered an arrow lodged in the vehicle’s exterior paneling. A closer inspection of the shaft determined that it was a bolt designed for use in crossbows.
The woman was transported to Queen’s North Hawaii Community Hospital, where she was treated for her injuries and later released.
The Police Department’s Area II Criminal Investigation Section is continuing to investigate the incident as a second-degree assault case and are requesting public assistance.
