After a four-year hiatus, the Paniolo Preservation Society is bringing back its signature event, the Old Hawaii on Horseback Pageant, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 16) in Waimea.
Reliving Hawaii’s rich history, the pageant will feature more than 100 men and women dressed in elegant wear of the monarchy, first missionaries, naval captains, and Hawaiian island queens and princesses astride horses.
The event will also honor kumu hula and cultural practitioner Edith Kanaka‘ole. Her daughters Pua Kanaka‘ole Kanahele and Nalani Kanaka‘ole Zane will be in attendance to celebrate their mother.
This year’s event features music by Brother Noland with Brandon and Emma Coloma-Nakano. Various food and beverage vendors will be available.
The event will be staged at the Waiki‘i Ranch Polo Field. Bring a chair or blanket for seating.
Tickets are $35 for general admission. Children 12 and under are free.
For more information, or to buy tickets, call 808-854-1541, or visit paniolopreservation.org. Tickets will also be available at the gate.
