The inaugural “Walk to Prevent Addiction and Overdose” is a free event for all ages hosted by the Hawaii Island Fentanyl Task Force. Registration is at 8 a.m. on Sept. 30 near Hilo Bay Café and the Lihiwai Street/Banyan Drive intersection. The walk starts at 8:30 a.m. There will be prevention resources available, live music and more.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Hawaii County had 40 drug overdose deaths last year, more than doubling the number in two years. Awareness and education drive prevention, and every overdose death is preventable. Addiction is a preventable, treatable disease for which recovery is within reach.

Join the Hawaii Island Fentanyl Task Force to remember lost ones, and support those seeking or in recovery, and promote awareness about fentanyl poisoning.
