Richard Adam Ignacio, 96, of Honokaa died Aug. 31 Hale Ho‘ola Hamakua in Honokaa. Born in Waipunalei, he worked for Holmes and Narver, Kaiwiki and Ookala sugar plantations, Jas W. Christine Barbadillo Saplan, 97, of Hilo died Sept. 4 at home. Born in Pahoa, she was co-owner with her late husband, Juan, of numerous business ventures bearing the Saplan name, including Saplan Bus Service, graduated from Hilo High School in 1945, sang in bands and acted in community theater, attended numerous churches, was active in community pursuits, including the Filipino Community Club, traveling, music, fitness and family.
