PAHALA — The Kamehameha Schools – Hawai‘i football team defeated Ka‘u HS 50-8 on Saturday, reaching a 10-0 overall record and 9-0 BIIF DII record.
The Warriors got ahead early, scoring 21 points during the first quarter.
KSH’s first touchdown came from a 65-yard pass from Adam Perry to Kekainalu Fuerte. Elijah Okano completed the PAT kick, his first of three made on the outing.
Next, Perry connected with Andrew Boshard for a 35-yard touchdown pass. Before the end of the quarter, Javan Feary capped off a red zone drive with a one-yard touchdown carry.
During the second quarter, the Trojans’ defense managed to hold the Warriors to nothing but a field goal — which was completed by Okano.
KSH nearly doubled its lead with a 20-point third quarter, with all three touchdowns scored on passes by Perry — 56 yards to Feary, 36 yards to Clay Ching and then 39 yards to Fuerte. Lucas Kay-Wong completed two of three PAT kick attempts.
Ka‘u put up its first points during the fourth quarter. Adadiyah Ellis-Reyes completed a 12-yard pass to Ocean Nihipali-Session for a touchdown, then Ellis-Reyes carried in a successful two-point conversion.
Late in the game, KSH’s backup QB — Chanse Ka‘au‘a-Long — got a chance to shine, connecting with Shiloh Santos for a 31-yard touchdown pass.
The Warriors are one win away from completing a perfect regular season and securing the BIIF DII title. However, their final opponent — Hawaii Preparatory Academy — will be no pushover.
Though the Warriors routed Ka Makani 49-0 during their last encounter, HPA was missing several key starters due to injuries.
According to HPA head coach Lincoln Kalama, most of those players have returned and will be healthy for Ka Makani’s upcoming game against the Warriors. HPA is currently riding a four-game winning streak and two straight shutouts.
The upcoming game will be HPA’s last shot at a postseason, as KSH will be the de facto BIIF DII champion if undefeated.
Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday at HPA.
Ka‘u also has one game remaining — Friday night at Honoka‘a — and it will be an opportunity for the Trojans to set themselves apart from the other former eight-man teams.
If Ka‘u can win, and win big enough, it will achieve the No. 3 standing in BIIF DII.
