Local travel ball team wins Vegas tourney

Lanakila Baseball — a travel team comprised of players from around the isle — won the Perfect Game 2023 17U Vegas Invitational last weekend in Henderson, Nevada.

Lanakila went 4-0 with two shutouts — defeating Poway, California’s Trosky Force 11-0, local Vegas Herd 12-0, Competitors Baseball of Boise, Idaho 9-4 and O‘ahu’s Kailua Baseball 12-4.

The team is coached by Chris Gomes, Kamren Agpalza and head coach Travis Akamu.

Players include Mikah Ibanez of Kea‘au HS, Kamren Agpalza of Hilo HS, Robert Lucas-Medeiros of Kea‘au HS, Jaiden-Lee Gabriel of Waiakea HS, Ty Fuji of Waiakea HS, Kahsen Tripp of Hawai‘i Academy of Arts and Science, Jaedan Meyer of Konawaena HS, Kingston Lee of KS – Kapalama (from Holualoa), Maika Akamu of Waiakea HS, Kolt Baptista of Konawaena HS and Braden Gomes of Kamehameha HS.

Kamren Agpalza was named Tournament MVP.
