UH-Hilo stayed unbeaten with a 2-0 home victory over Biola in the only shutout of the week. Phoebe Barnes helped provide the blank sheet, directing the defense and saving four Eagle shots that were on goal.

The former Sonoma State starter has a 0.46 goals against average on the season and 21 total saves. She has a 9-0-1 record in the goal. Barnes was picked as the PacWest Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year.

UH-Hilo’s Megan Donovan, last week’s PacWest Player of the Week, scored twice in the first half of UHH’s 2-0 win over Biola. She played a total of 49 minutes in the match and now has eight goals on the season, second in the conference behind teammate Teani Arakawa, who has nine.

Four teams are still unbeaten in PacWest play — UH-Hilo (5-0), Chaminade (4-0-1), Concordia (4-0) and Westmont (2-0-1). Point Loma is next at 2-2.

UH-Hilo has outscored their opponents this year 32-4, while Concordia has used defense to run up a 21-1 Goals For/Against mark. The Golden Eagles haven’t been scored upon since the first match of the season, a 1-0 loss to CS Los Angeles.

UH-Hilo is No. 5 in today’s national poll with Concordia checking in at No. 12.

Christian Souza

UH-Hilo knocked off the defending co-champs Biola, thanks in part to Christian Souza’s goalkeeper work. Point Loma’s Marlon Buck came off the bench for two scores in the Sea Lions’ victory over Chaminade and Westmont continued their impressive PacWest debut season with a 3-1 win over Azusa Pacific.

UH-Hilo had a huge home win over defending PacWest co-champ and NCAA regional participant Biola, 3-1. Christian Souza played all 90 minutes in goal and had six saves on the afternoon. That helped the Vulcans improve to 6-5 overall and to 3-2 in PacWest play, good currently for nine points, tied with three other teams. Souza, a fourth-year Vulcan, has a 1.33 goals against average and has 51 saves on the season. The Hawai’i native has a 5-4 record in the goal.

Westmont, Point Loma, Hawaii Pacific and UH-Hilo all won last week decisively by at least two goals.

Dominican has a slight lead in the conference standings with a 3-1-1 mark (10 points) followed by Westmont at 3-0 (9 points), Point Loma at 3-1 (9 points), and UH-Hilo at 3-2 (9 points)
