The Cardinals prevailed in straight sets of 25-19, 25-20 and 25-17 — their second sweep of the Seasiders in three weeks.
Wednesday’s play-in was conducted to break a tie for eighth place between the pair, who each finished the regular season with 4-8 records.
SJS will enter the first round of the playoffs, playing away against No. 5 Pahoa HS (8-4) at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
The Daggers and Cardinals last faced off more than a week ago at the Hilo Armory, and Pahoa prevailed 3-1.
The winner of the match will continue to the quarterfinals, where it will take on No. 4 Kohala HS on the evening of Tuesday, Oct. 24. The quarterfinal winner will play against No. 1 Ka‘u HS two days later in the semifinal.
On the other side of the bracket, No. 7 Honoka‘a HS and No. 6 Parker School will face off for the first round. The winner will face No. 3 Konawaena HS in the quarterfinal, then the subsequent winner will play against No. 2 HPA in the semifinal.
