Lawrence Shoji Hatayama, 87, of Hilo died Oct. 29 at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born in Olaa, he was co-owner of the former Truck and Trailer Service Inc., a member of Hilo Higashi Hongwanji Mission and U.S. Army veteran. Private services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by son, Neal (Jo-Ann) Hatayama of Hilo; brother, Kenichi Hatayama of Hilo; sisters, Patsy Umeno of California and Janice Manalili of Kona; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Darrell J. Lopez, 62, of Kailua-Kona died Sept. 20 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Wahiawa, Oahu, he was a vegetable stocker at Sack ’N Save and dishwasher at The Fish Hopper-Kona. Haruko Mitchell, 86, of Kapaau died Oct. 20 in Kapaau. Born in Mahukona, she was a retired nursery worker for Kohala Nursery, laborer for the former Kohala Sugar Co. and member of Kohala Senior Citizen Club and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kohala Ward. Private services. Survived by daughters, Valerie Mitchell of Las Vegas, Janice (Russell) Reese of Edgewood, Md., and Sharon Mitchell of Thatcher, Ariz.; son, Glen (Emma) Mitchell of Honolulu; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. JoAnn Sumire Tanibe, 68, of Kailua-Kona died Nov. 2 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Honolulu, she was the owner of Banyan Mart. Services at a later date. Survived by her husband, Craig Tanibe of Kailua-Kona; brother, Randy (Frances) Kuba of Oahu; sister, Naomi Kuba of Waianae, Oahu; parents-in-law, Pat and Lynette Tanibe of Honolulu; five nephews. Blossom Pua‘ala Akao Thompson, 73, of Kailua-Kona died Oct. 22 at home. Born in Kealakekua, she was co-owner/operator of a McDonald’s franchise in Manoa Valley, Oahu, and member of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Family visitation 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at Kona Imin Center in Holualoa. Celebration of life memorial service at 11 a.m. Lunch to follow.
