Officials: Be prepared for Kona Low weather system
A developing Kona Low weather system is expected to bring heaving rainfall, thunderstorms and possible flooding to Hawaii Island this week.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for all districts of the island from Wednesday morning through Thursday afternoon.

A flood watch means conditions are favorable for flooding. Flooding may not occur, but is possible.
The NWS may also issue flood warnings and advisories for specific districts on Hawaii Island while the flood watch is in effect.
Meanwhile, county officials are closely monitoring and preparing for the anticipated impact of the Kona Low system.
Kona Lows are subtropical cyclones that occur during the winter season in the central Pacific, with winds coming from the westerly direction.
Currently, trade wind weather prevails over much of the state. However, a gradual transition to a more unsettled pattern is expected from today through Friday as a Kona Low develops and matures.
In a statement, Mayor Mitch Roth urged residents and visitors to stay informed and take necessary precautions because the Kona Low is expected to bring significant rainfall.
Localized flooding, hazardous driving conditions, and other weather-related impacts could occur.
The Civil Defense Agency is actively coordinating with state agencies to ensure a swift and effective response to any emergencies that might arise.
County officials are encouraging residents to take the following precautionary measures: Stay informed by monitoring official weather updates from the NWS and local authorities; prepare an emergency kit with essential supplies, including food, water, medications, flashlights, batteries and important documents; establish a communication plan with family members and loved ones in case of evacuation or separation; secure outdoor furniture and loose objects, and ensure that gutters are clear to prevent flooding; and familiarize yourself with evacuation routes and shelters in your area.
