Rosita Ann Joyce, 89, of Keaau died Nov. 15 at home. Born on Molokai, she was a homemaker. Private services held. Survived by sons, Glen Sambueno of Hilo, Michael Joyce and James (Michelle) Joyce of Keaau; daughters, Barbara Alcos, Debra (George) Evangelista and Robin (Artemio Jr.) Sensano of Keaau, Theresa Kamakawiwoole of Hilo, Darlene (Luis) Linares of Honolulu and Crystal Kunishige of Las Vegas; sisters, Mariah Wallet and Carol (Edwin) Coloma of Keaau, Dorothy Wood of Kona; 27 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and four great-great Grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Kenneth Masao Kubo, 89, of Hilo died Nov. 12 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hakalau, he was a retired licensed practical nurse/emergency medical technician for Hilo Medical Center, had worked at Kuakini Medical Center on Oahu, Hawaii Army National Guard veteran and member of Waiakea Baptist Bible Church, Hawaii County Nutrition Program and Yamaguchi Kenjinkai. Visitation 9-10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 11, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at Alae Cemetery, Section H. Casual attire; lei welcome, no floral wreaths or bouquets. James “Jimmy” Paiva Jr., 73 of Hilo died May 20 in Keaau. Born in Hilo, he was an employee of the former Papaikou Sugar plantation, car detailer for Macayan Motors and a bus driver for the former Jack’s Tours. Ichiji “Ike” Ogata, 93, of Aurora, Colo., formerly of Wahiawa, Oahu, died Oct. 24, 2023 at Parker Adventist Hospital in Colorado. Born in Kaumana, Hilo, he was a retired electronic technician for the Federal Aviation Administration and U.S. Army veteran wholoved working in his yard, singing Frank Sinatra songs and making people laugh. Celebration of life services Wednesday, Jan. 3 at Mililani Mortuary Makai Chapel on Oahu. No koden.
