Puna shooting victim dies, case now classified as a murder

UPDATE: Police say the 39-year-old man shot in his driveway in Hawaiian Acres subdivision Saturday died Christmas Eve.

The victim has been positively identified as Dingie Anthony Dean Martin of Mountain View.

Martin succumbed to his injuries at 10:40 a.m. Sunday, Christmas Eve, accoding to police.

The investigation is now classified as a second-degree murder, and police are seeking information from the public, as noted below.

PREVIOUSLY:

A 39-year-old Hawaiian Acres man was shot and critically wounded in his driveway Saturday afternoon, police said.

Shortly after 2:15 p.m. Saturday, Puna patrol officers responded to a home in the 16-1600 block of Koloa Maoli Road (Road 9), in the Upper Puna subdivision, after receiving a report of the shooting.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Hilo Medical Center, where, at last report, he remained in critical condition.

Witnesses who were visiting the victim told police a vehicle drove partially up the driveway, and as the victim went to see who was there, he was shot.

Police haven’t yet identified a suspect or motive in this case.

The case is under investigation as an attempted second-degree murder.
