KEALAKEKUA — Konawaena and Kealakehe boys basketball squared off Friday night in some pre-holiday, crosstown action in Ellison Onizuka Gymnasium. The Wildcats won convincingly, 59-28.
Konawaena played an effective full-court press that forced an array of Waverider turnovers — giving the home team easy buckets in transition.
However, Kealakehe played harder in the second half, imitating some of the Wildcats’ defensive sets from the first two quarters — leading to multiple 3-point shots and free throw opportunities. But Kona’s size, team ball and shooting were too much to ultimately overcome.
Next up, Konawaena (3-6 overall, 1-2 BIIF) will face Kea‘au at 7 p.m. tonight at home. Kealakehe (1-4) faces St. Joseph at 6 p.m. Saturday in the Waveriders’ gymnasium.
