About 20 minutes into the new year, Queen’s North Hawaii Community Hospital welcomed the first baby to be born in a Big Island hospital in 2024.

Kahilikaimana Lindsey-Lorenzo, was born at 12:22 a.m. to Waimea parents Teighen Lindsey and Micah Lorenzo.

According to a statement from NHCH, the baby boy, weighing 7 pounds 12 ounces, was born after a 24-hour period of labor.

Both Hilo Medical Center and Kona Community Hospital also delivered babies early New Year’s Day, but not as early as Lindsey-Lorenzo.

In Hilo, Jack Lipp was born at 4:50 a.m. to Mountain View parents Mary Ott and Gavin Lipp, weighing in at 7 pounds four ounces and measuring 20 inches.

“I was really hoping for the New Year baby,” Ott said. “He kept on turning like a huli huli chicken that caused a lot of back pain.”

Meanwhile, parents Stephanie Sharrard and Jay-dn Kaluau Kalawa at 8:05 a.m. welcomed a still to-be-named baby girl at Kona Community Hospital.
