KSH BOYS 5 – KEA‘AU 0
Lucas Kay-Wong notched his third hat trick of the season, leading the Kamehameha Schools – Hawai‘i boys soccer team past Kea‘au High 5-0 Thursday at KSH.
The game remained scoreless until the 28th minute, when Iopa Quintana scored for KSH. Kay-Wong knocked in the second goal four minutes later. Then, starting at the 36-minute mark, the Warriors scored three goals in two minutes — two by Kay-Wong and one by Kanoa Honda.
With Thursday’s win, KSH crossed the midpoint of its season and moved to 5-0 — leading the BIIF Div.2 standings by eight points.
The Warriors’ next test will be Wednesday on the road at Hawaii Prep (1-2).
The Cougars sank back to a .500 record at 2-2-1. Kea‘au will host Parker School (0-4-1) at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
KSH GIRLS 9 – KEA‘AU 0
The Warriors’ girls team remained lossless, crushing Kea‘au in mercy-rule fashion on Thursday afternoon.
Rhacelyn Respicio led the Warriors with two goals — as Kule‘a Wengler, Rebekah Sipinga, Madisyn Meyers, Teija Moses, Alohi Kalaola-Maruquin, Jiselle Maglinti and Mia Chow all each scored a goal for KSH.
Now 3-0-2, KSH (will take a road trip on Tuesday to HPA (2-3-0) for its second matchup against Ka Makani.
Following their Saturday game at Kealakehe High (results will be published later), the Cougars (0-7-0) will continue chasing elusive wins with a Jan. 11 road test at Honoka‘a.
HONOKA‘A 9 – MAKUA LANI 0
Honoka‘a boys soccer handled business against Makua Lani on Thursday at Old Airport Park — beating the Lions in 9-0, mercy-rule fashion. The Dragons improved to 2-2-1 in the Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) — sitting in the middle of the Division-II standings.
MLS fell to 0-4-0 overall, remaining in the cellar of DII.
Six different Honoka‘a players scored goals in the brief rout, including junior Kupa’a Langan, senior Zach Juan and junior Gio Saucedo with two each. Senior Kana‘i Carvalho, sophomore Halia Case and senior Caine Howard tallied one apiece.
The Dragons will next hit the pitch against Division-I opponent Waiakea at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Hilo. The Lions will play Hawaii Prep today at 3 p.m. in Waimea.
HPA 8 – HONOKA‘A 0
Hawaii Prep’s girls soccer team crushed neighbor Honoka‘a High 8-0 Friday afternoon on the Dragons’ home pitch.
Mixtli Lindsey-Robles notched a hat trick for Ka Makani, and teammate Madie Buczyna contributed two goals — which she scored both of within a five-minutw window.
Nohea Lansdale, Kekai Lansdale and Caroline Betlach accounted for HPA’s three other goals. Goalkeeper Marcela Millan was credited with the shutout.
Now 2-3-0, Ka Makani will host KS-Hawaii (3-0-2) on Tuesday.
The Dragons (2-5-0) will next face undefeated Waiakea High (7-0-0) in Wednesday in Hilo.
KEALAKEHE FORFEITS TO WAIAKEA
Kealakehe High’s girls soccer team forfeited its match against Waiakea High that was scheduled for Friday afternoon.
The forfeit moved Waiakea’s record to 7-0-0 and Kealakehe’s to 2-4-0. The Warriors and Waveriders last faced off on Dec. 21, when Kealakehe fell in a 9-0 mercy-rule rout.
Waiakea will begin a three-game homestead on Wednesday afternoon, hosting Honoka‘a High.
The Waveriders’ next pitch appearance will be Tuesday afternoon at the UH-Hilo soccer field against Hilo High.
PARKER VS. WAIAKEA RESCHEDULED
The Parker School boys soccer game versus Waiakea — originally scheduled for Friday — was rescheduled to Jan. 15.
