In a narrow match between two Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) Division II powerhouses, Kamehameha Schools-Hawai‘i edged out Hawaii Prep 2-1 in a road victory on Wednesday in Waimea.
William Henderson and Micah Chung finished with a goal apiece for the Warriors, while Kaulia Kapuniai scored the lone goal for Ka Makani.
With KSH at 6-0-0 and atop of the standings, the Warriors will look to keep the momentum going against Kealakehe at 4 p.m. Saturday in Kea‘au. HPA (2-3-0) has been looking for consistency to start the year, and will try to redeem itself against Kea‘au at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Cougars’ stadium.

KEA‘AU 1 – PARKER 0
Kea‘au High’s boys soccer team notched its first win of the season, defeating Parker School 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon in Puna.
Rayden Handy scored the go-ahead goal for the Cougars. Goalkeepers Luke Laa and Tobias McMillian shared credit for the shutout.
Kea‘au moved to .500 at 1-1-1. The Cougars will next face Hawaii Prep (2-3-0) at 4 p.m. on Saturday at Kea‘au HS.
The Bulls fell to 0-4-1, and will continue to seek their first win at their next outing, 4 p.m. Monday at Waiakea High (2-1-1).

GIRLS: WAIAKEA 9 – HONOKA‘A 0
Waiakea High’s girls soccer team notched a mercy-rule, 9-0 victory over Honoka‘a High on Wednesday afternoon in Hilo.
The Warriors moved to 8-0-0 after the win — which was their fourth 9-0 shutout and seventh straight shutout. WHS has not surrendered a single goal this season while scoring an average of 7.28 goals against BIIF opponents.
Kau‘ionalani Mahi-Murray notched her second hat trick on the season, and third straight game scoring three or more goals.
Oili Aloy scored two goals for the Warriors — while Shaunte Fernandez, Penelope Conely-Ruth, Charlie Silva and Kira Kuramoto each scored one.
Waiakea goalkeeper Journey Morimoto was credited with the shutout.
Today, Waiakea and Hilo (8-0-1) will face off an the most decisive BIIF DI matchup so far this season . The match will kick off 3 p.m. today at Ken Yamase Memorial Stadium — and the winner will likely obtain the top standing in BIIF DI. The pair of teams will face off again a week later (Jan. 19) for the regular season finale.
Wednesday was the Dragons’ fourth straight loss, falling to 1-6-0. Honoka‘a’s next outing will be its final home game — 3 p.m. Monday against KS-Hawai‘i (3-0-2).

BOYS: WAIAKEA 3 – HONOKA‘A 0
Waiakea’s boys soccer squad followed its sister team’s shutout with its own, blanking Honoka‘a 3-0 Wednesday afternoon at WHS.
Aziah Nelson scored two goals for WHS and Keldon Yoshida scored one.
The victory moved Waiakea over the hump to a 2-1-1 record — standing at No. 3 of BIIF DI’s five teams, behind No. 1 Kealakehe (6-0-0) and No. 2 Hilo (5-2-0).
The loss to WHS ended Honoka‘a’s two-game win streak, dropping the Dragons’ record to under .500 at 2-3-0.
Following a Thursday homestand against Kea‘au (1-1-1), the Dragons will end their season Jan. 19 down the road at Hawaii Prep (2-3-0).
Waiakea still has five outings remaining, its next being 3 p.m. Saturday at Old Kona Airport against Makua Lani Christian (0-5-0).
