Christiano Kawika Hashimoto, 86, of Hookena died Dec. 7 in Henderson, Nev. Born in Keei, Kona, Hawaii, he was a retired U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer 4, Vietnam War veteran and member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church. Visitation 7:45-9 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Honaunau. Mass at 9 a.m. Burial noon at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery. Casual attire. Survived by wife, Virginia Hashimoto of Hookena; sons, Chris Hashimoto Jr., Bruce D. Thomas Soares Sr., 75, of Pepeekeo, died Dec. 23 at home. Born in Hilo, he was a 30-year employee for the Hilo Coast Sugar Company and had a professional yard service business for more than 40 years. Visitation to be held from 9-9:30 a.m. on Jan. 22 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou, with memorial Mass at 9:30 a.m. and lunch to follow at Parish Hall. No flowers.
