Kahilu Theatre in Waimea will present the premiere of “Hawaii Songwriter, The Film” at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 16.

There will be a reception at 6 p.m. and film screening at 7 p.m., followed by a Q&A.

The film is a documentary about Chase Kauhane’s songwriting journey from his hometown of Waimea on Hawaii Island to Los Angeles, Nashville and beyond. He now lives outside of Nashville, Tenn., and travels to pursue his craft and navigate the music industry with friends and legendary collaborators and mentors.

Kauhane’s songs are found on Netflix movies, major ad campaigns and on artist recordings such as Hawaii’s Kimie Miner, and platinum recording artist Sonny Sandoval.

Featured guests in the film are renowned producer and collaborator Ken Caillat, who produced Fleetwood Mac’s album “Rumors”; award-winning songwriter and Artist Max cofounder Nitanee Paris; The Brewz co-founders Chas Umamoto and Josh Stevens; Marmoset co-founder Brian Hal; Brewz member Evan Fujimoto; Portland indie artist Brandon Harper; and Waimea resident composer/producer Charles Michael Brotman.

The film was produced by Hawaii Island filmmaker Greg Alip and directed by Kauhane, who will attend the premiere.

This event is an opportunity to welcome Kauhane back to his hometown of Waimea and celebrate his career with the release of the film.
