KS-HAWAI‘I 3 – KEALAKEHE 0
The Kamehameha Schools – Hawai‘i boys varsity volleyball team prevailed over a scrappy Kealakehe High squad, winning in five sets on Saturday afternoon in Kea‘au.
After the Warriors dominated the first set 25-12, the Waveriders fired back to win 25-18 in the second set. KSH won the third set by 25-18, but Kealakehe responded again with a 25-23 fourth-set win.
In the fifth set, the Warriors took the win 15-5.
Nainoa Paio led KSH’s offense with 14 kills, trailed by Loheau Boshard with 12 kills and Tanoa Laititi with ten. Lansyn Apigo had an excellent defensive showing, notching 35 digs. Brince Silva had a good time at the service line, totalling four aces for KSH.
Now 2-0, the Warriors’ next appearance will be Monday evening at Hilo High (2-0). Next Saturday (March 16), the Warriors will host the ‘Riders again.
Kealakehe fell to 0-2, and will look to get its first win at its home opener on Tuesday night against Waiakea High (0-1).

HILO 3 – KEA‘AU 0
Hilo High won its second straight home matchup — sweeping Kea‘au High in straight, identically-scored sets of 25-16.
Now 2-0, the Vikings will next face KS-Hawai‘i on Monday night in their third of four consecutive home games. The Warriors and Hilo clashed last weekend during bracket play of KS-Hawaii’s invitational tournament, and KSH got the win.
Now 0-2, the Cougars will have some time to collect themselves before their next try — another game against Hilo, March 28 at home.

KA ‘UMEKE 3 – MAKUA LANI 1
Ka ‘Umeke Ka‘eo PCS got in the win column, outlasting Makua Lani Christian to win 3-1 on Friday night in Kona Town.
The Lions edged Ka ‘Umeke to win the first set 27-25 — but Ka ‘Umeke took control and won the next three sets consecutively, 25-16, 25-20 and 25-23.
Now 1-1, Ka ‘Umeke will return to Keaukaha for its next test on Tuesday evening against Parker School (3-1). That will be Ka ‘Umeke’s last matchup before Haili Tournament week, after which KUPCS will return to action March 29 on the road at Honoka‘a High.
Makua Lani fell to 0-2, and will look to notch its first win in another Tuesday matchup — at home against Honoka‘a.

HPA 3 – KANU 1
Hawaii Prep Academy’s boys varsity volleyball team notched its first win of the year on Thursday night in Waimea.
Ka Makani won in four sets over Kanu o ka ‘Aina Charter — 25-23, 25-18, 24-26 and 26-24.
Kanu showed fight in the final two sets to push HPA, but head coach Daena Craven’s group was able to execute down the stretch to seal the win.
Cam Root led the red and white with an impressive .750 hit percentage, followed by Kena Craven’s .620 and Kainoa Kakuewa’s .125.
Ka Makani (1-1) will look to rise above .500 in its next match against last year’s BIIF finalist Pahoa at 6 p.m. Wednesday on the road. Kanu (0-4) is still in search of its first win, and will return to the court against Honoka‘a at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Dragons’ gymnasium.
JV score: HPA beat Kohala 27-25, 16-25 and 17-15.
