Ka‘u High’s boys volleyball team handled Kohala High, dealing the Cowboys their first loss of the season in straight sets Monday in Kapaau —25-16, 25-19, 25-19.
The Trojans remained unbeaten, advancing to 2-0.
Ka‘u will aim to keep up its hot start in its next test, a home game against BIIF Division II powerhouse Konawaena High at 5 p.m. tonight. The Trojans will also host Parker School (3-1) on Friday night.
Kohala (1-1), on the other hand, will take a multi-week break — and will also next play the Wildcats at 6 p.m. March 27 in Kealakekua’s Ellison Onizuka Gymnasium.

KSH 3 – HILO 1
The Kamehameha Schools – Hawai‘i boys varsity volleyball team defeated Hilo High 3-1 on Monday evening in Hilo.
The win moved the Warriors to 3-0, and marked their third BIIF Division I rival downed on the season.
The Vikings outlasted KSH for a 26-24 win in the first set, but couldn’t maintain control as the Warriors rolled to victory in sets of 25-22, 25-22 and 25-17.
With 14 kills, Nainoa Paio led the way for KSH’s offense. Loheau Boshard, Kalahikiola Makaike and Kullen Pua also did their parts — each notching eight kills.
On defense, Lansyn Apigo led with 12 digs — trailed by Pua and Kahili Paleka with ten digs apiece. Tanoa Latiti also notched four blocks.
Setters Kalena Launiu and Jayson Nakata got 27 and 18 assists, respectively.
Both teams each have one outing left before next week, when BIIF volleyball will go on hold for the Haili Tournament.
Hilo (2-1) will host Waiakea High (1-1) at 6 p.m. Thursday for the pair of rivals’ first regular season matchup.
On Saturday morning, KSH will host Kealakehe High (0-2) for the second time in a week. Last Saturday, the Warriors and Waveriders went to five sets before KSH prevailed.
