‘Ukulele whiz Kris Fuchigami to perform in Volcano

Na Hoku Hanahano Award winner Kris Fuchigami will perform Saturday at the Volcano Art Center.

The event at the Niaulani Campus (19-4074 Old Volcano Road) will start at 5:30 p.m.

Born and raised on the Big Island, Fuchigami was 13 when he began his musical journey with an ‘ukulele and a strong desire to master the instrument.

At 15, he won the grand prize at the Hamakua Music Scholarship Competition, where he competed against many other musicians. He went on to perform in festivals and gained recognition throughout the world.

Fuchigami was awarded the Na Hoku Hanono Award for “Instrumental Composition of the Year” in 2019, 2021 and 2023.

Tickets are $25 for VAC members ($30 for nonmembers).
