Gary Aganus, 91, of Papaaloa died Feb. 1 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Paauhau, he was a retired plantation field manager for the former Hamakua Sugar, worked for the former Paauhau Sugar and the county Planning Department, served on the Liquor Commission, played and coached baseball from youth to makule, diver/fisherman and gardener. Jay N. Ishimoto, 87, of Hilo died April 7 at home. Louise Ululani “Aunty China” “Aunty Ulu” ‘Anake Ulu” Morales, 78, of Hilo died March 24 at home. Born in Honolulu, and a Kailua High School alumna and Madrigal singer, she was a retired school administrator, was among initial group of parents who established Punana Leo o Hilo and helped found Ke Kula ‘O Nawahiokalani‘opu‘u in Kea’au, and member of Malia Puka O Kalani Catholic Church.
