Jay N. Ishimoto, 87, of Hilo died April 7 at home. Born in Waialua, Oahu, he was a retired teacher at Hilo Intermediate School, retired member of Hawaii State Teacher’s Association, photographer for the Lyman Museum and founding member of the former Big Island Film Club. Private services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by wife, Maureen Ishimoto of Hilo; sons, Guy K. (Rosemary) Ishimoto of Roswell, Ga., And Dean H. (Shelley) Ishimoto of Hilo; sisters-in-law, Mabel Ishimoto and Sheila Black of Honolulu; brother-in-law, George Ueda of Hilo; a granddaughter; nieces and nephews. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Yoshiko “Betty” Kawashima, 95, of Honokaa died March 9 at a private care home in Hilo. Born in Kukuihaele, she was retired from the former Honokaa Hospital, worked for the Department of Education and was a member of Hamakua Jodo Mission, University Extension and Honokaa Senior Citizens. Private services held. Survived by husband, Sueichi Kawashima of Honokaa; sons, Irving Kawashima and Nathan (Ellen) Kawashima; daughter, Lynette (Sheldon) Takajo; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Feliza Malaqui Luis, 88, of Pepeekeo died April 12 at a care home in Hilo. Born in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, she was retired from Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Co. and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Visitation 9-10 a.m. Thursday, May 2, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou. Eulogy at 9:40 a.m. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Alae Cemetery. Casual attire. Ethel Yuko Matsuno, 89, of Hilo died March 6 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was a retired director of human resources for Suisan Co. Ltd. and retired public schoolteacher. Edward Tamotsu Nagamoto, 84, of Papaikou died April 7 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Olaa, he was a retired assistant plant manager for Floral Resources Hawaii, worked for the former Hawaiian Heart, member of Kaumana Drive Baptist Church and Hawaii Army National Guard veteran. Kahu Leifi Leolani “Puna” Keonaona‘oku‘uipo Pratt-Hao, 84, of Hilo died April 8 at Queen’s North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Kapaahu, Kalapana, she was kahu of Ka Hoku Ao Malamalama in Keaukaha a Hawaiiana teacher in Honolulu, a kumu hula for Hula Halau ‘O Leolani Pratt; taught Hawaiian culture, hula and ukulele to children and adults for Honolulu Parks and Recreation, Waldorf School and other organizations. Visitation 9-10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 30, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Cremation to follow. Casual attire. Additional services on Oahu.
