A 31-year-old Hawaiian Paradise Park man pleaded not guilty Friday to charges stemming from the shooting April 19 in HPP.

Hilo Circuit Judge Peter Kubota ordered Vasiliy Viktorovich Trubachev to appear for trial on Sept. 16.

Trubachev was indicted Wednesday by a Hilo grand jury on charges of attempted second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a separate felony for allegedly shooting 32-year-old Roman Zubkov.

According to court documents filed by police, Trubachev was caught on surveillance video firing a dark-colored handgun at the Zubkov as the latter fled from Trubachev’s 7th Avenue residence.

Zubkov was hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries caused by multiple gunshot wounds.

Trubachev remains in custody at Hawaii Community Correctional Center in lieu of $550,000 bail.

Trubachev faces a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment with the possibility of parole if convicted on the attempted second-degree murder charge. Use of a firearm in the commission of a separate felony is a Class A felony that carries a maximum 20-year prison sentence, upon conviction.
