The Kamuela Philharmonic at 2 p.m. Sunday will bring back the much-loved “POPS!” concert to the Kahilu Theatre in Waimea for its 2023-24 season finale.

After the success of last year’s sold-out performance, the Philharmonic returns with a program curated by Artistic Director and Conductor Brian Dollinger to captivate and charm audiences of all ages to close out the season with a delightful crescendo, according to a press release.

From the lights of Broadway to the enchanting and timeless melodies of Hollywood, the “POPS!” will be brimming with cherished pops classics “that will surely warm hearts and leave concertgoers with smiles as bright as the Kohala sun.”

“Symphony orchestras are well-known for their performances of Beethoven, Mozart and Tchaikovsky, but there is a whole different side to their repertoire — POPS! This encompasses a wide variety of ‘popular culture’ music from movies, television, Broadway, even video games,” Dollinger said in the release. “I really enjoy these concerts because many of our audience members who attend them are new to the Philharmonic. This type of concert is the perfect way to introduce new listeners to the Philharmonic.”

Dollinger added the “concert will touch upon many of the greats who have influenced American music from the early 1900s to today. It will be music that generations of listeners can connect to and, in many cases, relive fond memories.”

Under Dollinger’s direction during the “POPS!” the Philharmonic will perform iconic works by Henry Mancini, Frank Sinatra, Morton Gould, Duke Ellington, George Gershwin and more.

“It’ll be a great way to spend the afternoon — whether you are a Philharmonic subscriber or someone who is curious about symphonic music and wants to come check us out,” Dollinger said. “We have fun at all of our concerts, but the ‘POPS!’ concert is the perfect entry to the new listener.”

Tickets for “POPS!” are range from $76 to $22. They may be purchased online at kamuelaphil.org or by calling the Kahilu Theatre Box Office at (808) 885-6868 or visiting the Box Office in person at 67-1186 Lindsey Road in Waimea on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and during events.
