Harold Kamoili Kalama, 79, of Keaau died April 11 at home. Born in Honolulu, he was a retired electrician, member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 595, U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran and avid waterman and angler who paddled for Hui o Ke Kai and Kaimanu Outrigger Canoe Clubs, completed in the Moloka‘i Hoe and sailed solo from San Pedro, Calif., to Hilo and Hilo to Nuku Hiwa in the Marquesa Islands. Celebration of life and scattering of ashes at a later date. Survived by wife, Kim Leolani Kalama; son, Kealii Kalama; daughter, Ku‘uipo Kalama; brothers, Julian Puahauamelika (Kathleen) Kalama of San Leandro, Calif., Steven Monsarrat Kalama of Denver and Montegue Ross (Yavonne) Kalama of Sun Valley, Nev.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Irma Lai, 92, of Hawi died May 1 at Kohala Hospital. She was a former history teacher in Germany, operated Lai Farms in Kohala and member of Kohala Senior Citizens Club, Kohala Hospital Auxiliary and Tong Wo Society. Private services at a later date. David Grant Sellars, 66, of Mountain View, formerly of Los Gatos, Calif., died April 15 at John McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital in Little Rock, Ark. born in Simi Valley, Calif., he was a U.S. Air Force Vietnam War era veteran, KTA Super Stores employee, yo-yo enthusiast and teacher known as the “Yo-Yo Man of Hilo,” devout Christian, member of Kurtistown Assembly of God Church, served in and led its Food Pantry Ministry Leader. Celebration of life 5 p.m. Saturday (May 11) at Kurtistown Assembly of God, 17-550 Volcano Hwy. Casual or aloha attire. Flowers and/or koden (monetary gifts) welcome.
