Veneranda “Nancy” Banez Cabico, 103, of Captain Cook died May 14 at home. Born in Santa Maria, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, she was a retired housekeeper for the former Kona Hilton Hotel, member of AFL Hotel and Restaurant Workers union, coffee farmer and former worker for Dole Pineapple Cannery in Honolulu. Services at a later date. Survived by sons, Mabini Dagdag of Captain Cook and Rogelio (Michelle Smith) Dagdag Sr. of Ocean View; hanai son, Kevin Dagdag of Oahu; grandchildren and great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins. Doris Yasuko Kuwahara, 99, of Hilo, formerly of Pahoa, died March 7 at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center in Hilo. Born in Kapapala, Ka‘u, she was the retired co-owner of the Hawaiian Greenhouse company and a member of Puna Hongwanji Buddhist Temple. Private services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by children, Alan (Lynne) Kuwahara, Gail (Gordon) Takaki and Lance (Sandra) Kuwahara of Hilo, Carol (Kelsey) Deguchi of Waipio, Oahu, and Colin Kuwahara of Pahoa; brother, Bob Nishimura of Sedona, Ariz.; sister, Ellen Mizota of Kaneohe, Oahu; sisters-in-law, Florence Nishimura and Kikuko “Kay” Kuwahara of Hilo; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nephews, nieces and cousins. Carolyn Takiko Mizuno, 75, of Hilo died April 5 at home. Born in Kapaa, Kauai, she was a retired Hawaii public schoolteacher and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin.
