Archie Spencer Kaaua Jr., 91, of Waimea, died May 23 at home. Born in Hilo, he was a retired safety inspector for Chevron Oil refinery, U.S. Army Korean War veteran, third-generation paniolo from Waimea, and waterman who was part of several Molokai Hoe championship canoe teams. Marife “Fay” Valdez Ramos, 45, of Pepeekeo died April 25, at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles.
