The Hilo Woman’s Club has announced its the 2024-25 scholarship winners.

Three $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to Denver Branco, Kennedy Moniz and Kaylie Wolverton, all of Hilo, to help cover tuition and education expenses to assist in the accomplishment of their scholastic goals.

Branco, a previous 2023-24 winner of this scholarship, has won again this year. In her pursuit to earn a nursing degree, she continues to exhibit exemplary academic excellence with a 4.0 GPA, earning her placement on the national dean’s list in her freshman year at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.

“I am honored and excited to be chosen again to be a recipient of the scholarship,” Branco said in response to winning the award.

Moniz is a first-time recipient of this scholarship and was an impressive candidate with a 4.0 GPA, which she maintained throughout her high school years at Waiakea High School. Moniz has a heart for the community. As a Waiakea High School Interact Club member, she spearheaded the club’s first-ever book drive, collecting over 1,000 books for Hawaii Island’s homeless and disadvantaged children. She strives to study education or nursing and will attend the UH-Hilo in the fall. Upon learning of her selection, Moniz replied that she was “grateful and it was a blessing.”

Wolverton, a junior attending the UH-Hilo, is also a first-time recipient of this scholarship. Her academic performance, marked by a 3.85 GPA and dean’s list placement for three semesters, is a testament to her commitment to excellence. Wolverton’s passion for volunteer work and her desire to make a difference in the lives of others is truly admirable. She responded upon learning of her selection, “I am grateful as the scholarship was very much needed to help complete her last year in school.”

Hilo Woman’s Club awards scholarships every spring from funds raised through community events. The Scholarship Committee chose the winners after the application process took place and was excited this year to increase the scholarship amount for each recipient.
