Shimomi “Violet” Araujo, 98, of Hilo died June 3 at Hilo Benioff Medical Center. Born in Waiakea Mill, Hilo, she was a retired seamstress for the former Shimomi’s Garment Factory and the former Kamehameha Garments, and member of Hilo Seventh-day Adventist Church and the Lanakila FCE, aka Hilo Association for Family and Community Education. Visitation 1-3 p.m. Sunday (June 16) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Funeral service at 3 p.m. Cremation to follow. Visitation and celebration of life also 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, at the Hilo Seventh-day Adventist Church, 162 Kapiolani St. Interment at a later date. Survived by daughter, Elizabeth (Roger) Toledo of Hilo; son, Clayton B. (Terri Saito) Araujo of Hilo; daughter-in-law, Jo Ann Araujo of San Antonio; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Sharyn Kaye Bemiller, 72, of Naalehu died May 31 at home. Born in Salem, Ohio, she was a retired manager and hairdresser, former country music singer, artist and crafter. Celebration of her life at a later date in Ohio. Survived by husband, Russell Bemiller Jr. of Naalehu; daughters, Angela (Stan) Dodson of Oklahoma and Amanda (Kristopher) Lamb of Ohio; sister, Kathy Bookman of Ohio; two grandsons. Josephine Ann Cox, 77, of Hilo died May 30 at her daughter’s home in Pahoa. Born in Hilo, she was a retired cashier at Kilauea Military Camp in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Private services. Lillian K. Kamimura, 90, of Waimea, died June 8 at home. Born in Hilo, she was a bible teacher, a member of the Kohala, Honokaa, Kamuela and Waikoloa congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses, office manager for Transcontinental, developer of Waikoloa village and Sheraton Hotel and former owner of Donna’s Cookies. Visitation 2-3 p.m. Saturday (June 15) at the Honokaa Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 44-2662 Kalopa Rd. of Honokaa. Memorial service at 3 p.m. Casual attire; no flowers. Midori Hasegawa, age 102, of Hilo, Hawaii, passed away on March 31, 2024 in Hilo. She was born in Hilo, Hawaii on January 9, 1922 and was a part-owner of Hawaii Junk Ltd. and member of Hilo Nichiren Mission. Private services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts).
