The Hawaii County 4-H Livestock Show & Sale will be held Friday and Saturday.
This event is from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Rocking Chair Arena (Anderson Arena), located at 47-5124 Hawaii Belt Road (between Waimea and Honokaa).
This is the annual 4-H livestock show and sale where keiki, who have been working hard (some for the past six months) raising their animals, get to show them off as well as auction them during the live sale.
They raise steer, hogs, lambs, goats, chickens and rabbits that all go to feed the local community.
The keiki also learn and are tested on meat cuts, as well as judging a class of animals. The hope is the keiki are being trained to be the next generation of ranchers/farmers on the island and in the state.
4-H is a life skills program for youth that teaches them discipline, perseverance and self-confidence.
The community is invited to attend to see what the program is all about — and perhaps consider becoming a buyer one day.
