Neighbors assisted a man to escape his burning Hawaiian Paradise Park home early Tuesday morning.

According to a Hawaii Fire Department statement, the man declined medical assistance or transport to Hilo Benioff Medical Center.

He was not identified by HFD, which cited the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, or HIPAA.

Seven units responded to the 1:54 a.m. call to the Hopue Road residence. The first to arrive at 2:15 a.m. found the 900-square-foot house destroyed and collapsed.

The fire was declared under control at 2:25 a.m. and extinguished at 6:46 a.m.

No injuries were reported. Damages to the single-story structure owned by Akamai Permaculture Trust was $98,800.

The cause of the fire is undetermined, according to HFD.
