Military aircraft alert for Hawaii Island

The public is advised that depending on weather, jet engine and aircraft noise may increase over Pohakuloa Training Area and West Hawaii from July 8 through Aug. 2 as military aircraft participate in the 2024 Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise.

During this period, intermittent daily flights could occur from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Fixed-wing aircraft flights will vary between fighters, heavy transport and jets, according to a statement from the U.S. Army.

RIMPAC is a biennial, international maritime exercise that sustains cooperative relationships critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes.

This year’s exercise includes humanitarian aid and disaster relief training, critical to ensuring military units and service members are ready to accomplish their mission and return home safely, the Army said.
