Alleged assailant of county-contracted surveyors charged

Police have charged 32-year-old Kukaua Keliihooluhi Kaupe Bright, whom they say is one of two men who allegedly assaulted a pair of county-contracted surveyors July 9 in downtown Hilo.

Bright, who has no permanent address, was arrested Friday in downtown Hilo. Later that evening, he was charged with: first-degree unauthorized entry to a motor vehicle; third-degree assault; fourth-degree theft; and unauthorized possession of personal confidential information

His bail was set at $12,100 and he’s scheduled to make his initial court appearance Monday in Hilo District Court.
