Kevin Masayoshi Araki, 54, of Hilo, formerly of Arizona, died May 10 at Hilo Benioff Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a resort hotel bartender and cook, and a U.S. Marine Corps Persian Gulf War veteran. Private services held. Survived by sisters, Paulette Nagata of Honokaa, Darlene Varize and Burnalyn (Benny) Yee of Keaau, Terry (Francis) Tajon and Laureen (Delis) Estabilio of Hilo; brother, Benedict Shon Jr. of Pepeekeo; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Shawn D. Ferreira, 56, of Kalopa died May 7 at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. Born in Honokaa, he was a retired Hawaii Fire Department fire equipment operator at Waimea Station and member of Hawaii Fire Fighters Association. Visitation 8-9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa. Mass at 10 a.m. Celebration of life 12:30 p.m. at Paauilo Hongwanji. Scattering of ashes at a later date. Survived by wife, Melonee Ferreira-Kahaunaele; stepson Teddy Orta; father, Frank (Milo) Ferreira; brother, Tim (Farrah) Ferreira; father-in-law Philip (Tanya) Velez; a nephew, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Primrose Kalanipua Medeiros, 95, of Mountain View died July 1 at Hilo Benioff Medical Center. Born in Hookena, she was a housekeeper for Hilo Hawaiian Hotel and member of Keaau Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Visitation 5-6 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Wake service at 6 p.m. Visitation again 9-10 a.m. July 25 at Keaau Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Mass at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Mauna Kea Memorial Park in Papaikou. Survived by son, James (Oanh) David of Mountain View; eight grandchildren, 22 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Maurice K. Nakagawa, 80, of Cypress, Calif., formerly of Hawaii Island, died June 27. Born on Hawaii Island, he was a fisherman, father, grandfather and brother. Funeral services 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at Orange County Buddhist Church, 909 South Dale Ave., Anaheim, Calif. Aloha attire. Survived by children: Renee (Hiroki) Noda, Jon (Sandra) Nakagawa, Sean Nakagawa and Niki (Jeremy) Marasigan; siblings, Elaine Bickerstaff and Ray Nakagawa; six grandchildren.
