Hisako Hirai, 92, of Kealakekua died June 24 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Shizuoka, Japan, she was a clerk for Ben Franklin Store, server at Kona Tei and Kazan restaurants, worked for Japanese tour companies, participated in a senior bowling league and line dancing, and enjoyed yarn crafting. Private services. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by sons, George (Kathy) Hirai of Ewa Beach, Oahu, Tommy (Sharon) Hirai of Hilo and Jeffrey (Lacey) Hirai of Captain Cook; daughter, Linda Hirai of Kealakekua; brother-in-law, Richard (Ruth) Hirai of Kaneohe, Oahu; seven grandchildren; great-grandchildren. Joyce Yukiko Horie, 66, of Waimea died July 21 at Kuakini Hospital in Honolulu. No services. Born in Honokaa, she was a courtesy clerk at Foodland and worked at McDonald’s. Survived by four nieces; aunts, uncles and cousins. Arrangements by Dignity Memorial.

Bernardo “Kalapo” Labasan Jr., 88, of Captain Cook died July 9 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Honokaa, Hawaii on August 22, 1935, he was a retired U.S. Army sergeant first class. Visitation 8-10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa. Mass at 10 a.m. Burial to follow in church cemetery. Casual attire. Survived by wife, Patsy Sabarre of Captain Cook; brothers, Clarence Kamahele of Honokaa, Allen (Regina) Labasan of Kaneohe, Oahu, Edward Labasan of Petaluma, Calif., and Danny (Sue) Labasan of Lincoln City, Ore.; sisters, Elizabeth (Don) Hyler of Gainsville, Va., Dorothy (James) Slack of Saugus, Calif., Gloria Pillsbury of Fountain Valley, Calif., Rose Alberts of Eagle Creek, Ore., and Linda (Jerry) Bridges of Fall River, Mass.; nieces, nephews and cousins.
