Community invited to BISAC’s Summer Jam

The Big Island Substance Abuse Council, or BISAC, will hold its 10th annual Summer Jam Event from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday at the Hilo Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.

This free, family-friendly event promises a day full of fun, food and community spirit, and the public is invited join BISAC in celebrating a decade of recovery, support and hope.

This year’s event will feature various activities and offerings for all ages. Enjoy delicious eats from local food vendors and explore wellness options and resources at the ‘Ohana Health Fair, and keiki will have a blast with games and interactive experiences.

At the same time, our heroes will test their strength in the thrilling Truck Pull and the highly anticipated Strongman and Strongwoman Weight Lifting Contest.

“We are incredibly grateful to our vendors, volunteers, community organizations and the dedicated staff of BISAC for making our 10th annual Summer Jam possible,” Dr. Hannah Preston-Pita, chief executive officer of BISAC, said in a press release. “Their support and hard work enable us to continue our mission of helping our most vulnerable neighbors.

“We look forward to seeing hundreds, and hopefully, thousands, of community members come together this Saturday to support recovery and hope.”

Event coordinator Sasha Payao emphasized the event’s inclusive and exhilarating nature.

“This Summer Jam is always a highlight of the year because it brings together people from all walks of life to celebrate our BISAC community,” Payao said in the press release. “Whether you’ve been coming for years or it’s your first time, there’s something magical about the energy and vibes here. Our incredible lineup of activities and entertainment promises to be fun and exciting for everyone. The master of ceremonies is the hilarious and engaging Mike Garcia, better known on Instagram as @islandmagicmike.”
