Mieko Nishimura, 84, of Hilo died July 29 at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born in Nagasaki, Japan, she was a retired Japanese language instructor for the U.S. Department of Defense. Survived by daughters, Emi (Jim) Marika and Eri Leatherman of Hilo; sisters, Rumiko and Hideko of Japan; three grandchildren. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Kinue Sakaitani, 89, of Kahului, Maui, died June 24 at Roselani Place. Born Kinue Hayashi in Hilo, she was a vocational rehabilitation counselor, specializing in services for the deaf and blind, was selected state Department of Human Services Employee of the Year for her contributions, and loved family gatherings, bowling, spearfishing and traveling with Terry, her husband of 60 years. Interment at Makawao Veterans Cemetery alongside her departed husband in a private ceremony. Survived by children, Keith Sakaitani of Las Vegas, Kyle (Sally) Sakaitani of Waimea and Kris (Grace) Sakaitani of San Jose, Calif.; three grandchildren.
