Tropical storms Emilia, Fabio could possibly combine
A pair of tropical storms in the Eastern Pacific Ocean are dancing with each other as they head west.
Tropical Storms Emilia and Fabio are both southwest of Baja California this morning, both generating maximum wind speeds of 65 mph.

According to the National Weather Service, both storms are beginning to move northwest toward the Central Pacific while slightly rotating around each other.
The two storms are in close proximity, and are expected to interact in complicated ways. The NWS predicts that the two cyclones could rotate around each other for three or four days, or could merge together into a single, more powerful storm.
The current forecast leans toward Emilia absorbing Fabio and reaching hurricane strength by Wednesday. However, if this happens, the storm will gradually weaken as it moves westward toward Hawaii.
Currently, neither storm is predicted to make it into the Central Pacific before getting downgraded to a tropical depression or dissipating entirely, but the NWS forecasts note that the outcome of the storms’ interaction with each other could change those predictions.
