Born in Honolulu, he was a retired Hawaii Army National Guard sergeant first class and helicopter mechanic and U.S. Army Afghanistan War veteran. Robert “Bobby” Vasco Moniz, 91, of Kapaau died on July 21 at Hilo Benioff Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, he was a retired bell captain at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, reserve police officer and worked for Slim Holt; Grayline, Waiaka Lodge, Kona Inn and King Kamehameha Hotel, security at Halii Kai and Kukio and member of Hawi Sacred Heart Catholic Church and numerous motorcycle clubs. Visitation 8:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31 at Hawi Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Hawi County Cemetery. Casual elegant attire. William “Bill” Roger Steffenhagen, 72, of Kailua-Kona died July 24. Born in Kent, England, he was an artist, glass blower, musician, golfer and member of the U.S. Golf Association, U.S Navy sonar technician and exalted ruler of the Kona Elks Lodge.
