Eight Big Island school bus routes restored, starting Monday

The state Department of Education announced Thursday that eight previously suspended school bus routes in East Hawaii will be reinstated starting Monday, restoring service for nearly 200 student bus riders.

Continuing efforts to restore suspended routes, bus service contractor Ground Transport Inc. has secured additional drivers and buses by subcontracting with Polynesian Adventure Tours. The latest restored routes will be serviced by buses from GTI, Roberts Hawaii and Polynesian Adventure.

Parents and guardians of student riders will be notified directly of restored routes and any necessary route modifications.

The following school bus routes in East Hawaii and Upcountry Maui will resume service, effective Monday:

Hilo-Waiakea Complex Area

• deSilva Elementary – TR04B

• Hilo High – TR04A

• Hilo Intermediate – TR01A

• Kalanianaole Elementary &Intermediate – TR01B

Ka‘u-Keaau-Pahoa Complex Area

• Ka‘u High &Pahala Elementary – SR06A

• Keaau Middle – SR22A

• Keaau High – SR32A, SR32B

More updates will be provided as additional bus routes are restored.
