Robert Jule Dehmer, 94, of Captain Cook died May 18 at Nakamaru Hale in Holualoa. Born in Newark, N.J., he was a mechanic for Royal Hawaiian Air Service and member of Screen Actors Guild. Inurnment 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery. Survived by sons, Walter “Kimo” (Debrah) Dehmer of Honaunau, Lynn (Sunny) Dehmer of Kukuihaele, Robert Dehmer of Ka‘u and Ricky Dehmer of Hilo; daughter. Gail Dehmer of Mountain View; 14 grandchildren; great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Duncan Ferguson Dempster, 87, of Waimea died June 16 at home. He had careers in the U.S. Navy and at Bank of Hawaii, sang with the Waimea Community Chorus and enjoyed woodworking and writing. No services. Survived by son, Duncan (Ariana Eichelberger) Dempster Jr.; longtime companion, Patty Bigelow; sister, Nan Longley; a grandson; three nieces and a nephew. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Samson Yoshio Hamamoto, 87, of Hilo died July 28 at Hilo Benioff Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired diesel mechanic for Hawaiian Equipment Co., a U.S. Army veteran and member of Papaikou Hongwanji Buddhist Temple. Private services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by wife, Eunice Hamamoto of Hilo; son, Ryan Hamamoto of Hilo; sisters-in-law, Betty Hamamoto of Hilo, Mabel Watanabe and Jennifer Watanabe of Honolulu, Etsuko Horio of Hilo; brothers-in-law, Masaru Watanabe and George Shigenaga of Hilo of Hilo; nephews and nieces. Paul Jayson Pang, 76, of Hilo and Sugarloaf, Calif., died Aug. 23 at Hilo Benioff Medical Center. Born in California, he was a fiber optic technician and U.S. Marine Corps veteran. Private services. Steve Whetzel, 76, of Kailua-Kona died Aug. 10 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Petersburg, W.Va., he was a certified public accountant and certified fraud examiner, U.S. Navy Vietnam War veteran, member of Kona Elks, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars and commander of American Legion Post 20. Service with military honors 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery. Inurnment at noon. Survived by wife, Chandra Whetzel; son, Ian Whetzel; sisters, Donna (Ozzie) Santiag and, Patty Copalko; brothers, Jerry Whetzel and James Gregory (Maritza) Whetzel; five nieces and three nephews.
