The Hawaii Police Department said that shortly before 11 a.m. today, North Kohala patrol officers responded to a report that a small Cessna airplane made an emergency hard landing in pasture land south of Upolu Airport in Hawi.
Officers at the scene were told by the pilot and sole occupant of the plane that while operating the aircraft at around 300 feet, he lost all power to the engine, causing a hard landing.
The pilot was treated at the scene for a minor injury by Hawaii Fire Department personnel and released.
