The Big Island Press Club is hosting a forum with Hawaii County mayoral candidates Mitch Roth and Kimo Alameda.

The event, from 11 a.m.to 1:30 p.m., on Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Hilo Yacht Club, is being held in honor of the Big Island Press Club’s scholarship program, which aims to provide financial assistance to deserving Big Island students pursuing a career in journalism or communications.

During the luncheon, guests can meet with incumbent Mayor Roth and challenger Alameda, who have made it through the Primary Election and will now be facing off in the Nov. 5 General Election.

The Big Island Press Club, along with community co-sponsors All Hawaii News, Albatross News and Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce, will be hosting the occasion, which will feature heavy pupus, a reception line, a Q&A session and ample opportunity to talk one-on-one with the candidates at the Hilo Yacht Club in Keaukaha.

Guests can expect a menu that includes veggie spring rolls, beef teriyaki sticks, chicken yakitori, mini tea sandwiches of watercress, tofu and short rib sliders. Ice water is provided; tea, soft drinks or beverages may be ordered for an additional fee.

Tickets are $40 for BIPC members and sponsors and $45 for the general public. Space is limited.
