William Franklin (Bill) Eger, 89, of Hilo died Aug. 16 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Fort Worth, Texas, he was a journalist for the former Atlanta Journal, the former New York Herald Tribune, United Press International and Texas radio, a speechwriter for California Democrats, with wife, K.T. Cannon-Eger, operated the former Cannon and Eger Public Relations, helped form the Maui and Hawaii Island Economic Development Boards and Friends of Lili‘uokalani Gardens, was educated at Texas Tech and the University of Chicago and was a member of Puna Hongwanji Mission, the Maui and Big Island Press Clubs, the Rotary in Maui and Hilo and was president of the Navy League in Hilo. His hobbies included golf, gardening and building ship models. Visitation 10-10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at Puna Hongwanji Mission in Keaau. Memorial service at 10:30 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to Puna Hongwanji Mission, Hawaii Care Choices or Friends of Lili‘uokalani Gardens. Survived by wife, K.T. Cannon-Eger; daughter Denise (Beck) Borges of Austin, Texas; son, retired Army Lt. Col. Crispino “Cris” Estrada Sr., 90, of Papaikou died Aug. 14 at home. Born in Papaikou, he was a mechanic at the former Mento Service Station in Papaikou, classroom cleaner at Hilo High School and member of the Immaculate Heart Mary Catholic Church. Kamalu “Malu Boy” Sisoye Kabalis, 39, of Hilo died Aug. 24. Born in Hilo, he was a multi-sport athlete, having played baseball for Waiakea Uka, Waiakea Pirates and Lincoln Wreckers, competitive volleyball, including a BIIF championship at Waiakea High School, where he graduated in 2003. His hobbies included golf, boogie boarding, motorcycle riding, hunting, cooking and baking, and he was known to be mechanically inclined. Visitation 3-6 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 10) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Memorial service at 4 p.m. Private burial at a later date. Casual attire; no flowers.
