BIIF volleyball: Wildcats, Warriors and Ka Makani sweep

KEALAKEKUA — Konawaena girls volleyball hosted Makua Lani in a crosstown matchup Thursday night in Ellison Onizuka Gymnasium, and the Wildcats handled business quickly.

Kona won in straight sets — 25-16, 25-12 and 25-9. The Wildcats’ defense and chemistry overwhelmed the Lions from the opening serve.

Kona (3-1) returned to action against Ehunui on Friday night in Kealakekua. See Monday’s paper for the results.

Makua Lani (0-3) will play Ehunui at 5 p.m. Monday at Kona’s Old Airport.

KSH 3, Laupahoehoe 0

Kamehameha Schools-Hawai‘i traveled Thursday to the Hamakua Coast to play the Laupahoehoe Seasiders. The Warriors made the most of their business trip, routing Laupahoehoe in consecutive sets.

KSH won 25-5, 25-13 and 25-7. Shay Beals led both clubs with 11 kills, while teammate Maile Kuamo‘o dished out 27 assists. Ziona Launiu notched five service aces. Defensively, Warriors player Kealohi Dudoit led with nine digs.

KSH (5-0) remains unbeaten in 2024, and will face the Seasiders (0-2) again Monday — this time at 6 p.m. in Kea‘au.

Laupahoehoe plays Ka Umeke at 10 a.m. this morning at home.

JV: KSH beats SJS 2-0 — 25-22, 25-13.

HPA 3, Kanu 0

Hawaii Prep Academy girls volleyball continued its hot start to the season with a straight-sets victory in Thursday’s match against Kanu o ka ‘Aina in Castle Gym.

Ka Makani won in straight sets in a breeze — 25-8, 25-12 and 25-11.

HPA (4-0) will look to keep it going against Kohala on Monday. First serve is slated for 6 p.m. in Kapa‘au.

Kanu (0-3) hosts Honoka‘a at 10 a.m. today in Waimea.
